Getting Back into GvG- Lament of an oldschool GvGer.
Is very difficult, if not impossible, after a long absence.
My guild, LOL, is inactive, with no possibility of entering GvG again (just not enough active players). Every other guild in the alliance is in a similar position.
My friends list is pretty much dead after all the years- I've seen one PvPer log on, and that was about a month ago.
Which basically puts me in the position of starting fresh. But even if I were willing to leave my current guild (dead though it may be), the standard routine would be to join a weak guild that spams in GotB/Spamadan/etc., and bounce around through guilds as I get to know people.
But, alas, I'm leaving for China in three weeks. So, I'm kinda screwed. As a former member of BBQ, founding member of Fish, benchwarmer for iGi (<3 Natures, despite the rage), and so on, I bid farewell to the GvG community. Would have liked to get back together again, but I guess it was not meant to be.
Are there any other retired PvPers, who would like to get back into things, but for whatever reason, cannot? Relate your story, and weep together. Then go back to goofing off in RA!

It is a completely different game from when you played back then.
While having the credentials (no matter if 98% of the people that play now won't even recognized the name of LoL) does put you ahead of someone who doesn't have said credentials, your best options are general forming your own sort of guild and finding decent players one by one, getting lucky by finding someone willing to play with you and judge your skill, or the option you listed.
I started a mentor guild a few months ago that has gone pretty smoothly. If we need a guest for our smurf guild and you feel like you can play a spot I would be more than happy to offer you that opportunity to play a bit and let me judge your learning capabilities and such.
Join Teamquitter.com and familiarize yourself with that. Hit me up with a message if you want me to invite you to zQ.

I'm trying to remember who you are.
It stopped being fun when Nightfall came out, everyone just burned out. Some of us still play now and then though. Chu is trying to get his HoM to 50, Happy organises no standards GvGs now and then. And I just do PvE as well, or GvG with anyone who asks. I find it kind of depressing to GvG now though. You can get back into GvG if you want, you just can't have what we had back. Success at GvG was always hugely about networking, and if everyone you were friends with and invited you to do stuff with quit 4 years ago, you can't come back and cruise into groups like we used to. Getting on QQ and networking is the right answer.
From what everyone's saying though, it sounds like the reform is coming for GW2, so I'll see you then I guess. Post on our forums.

I did. I'm Jesse, the guy who posted the reforming for GW2 thread >.> We had Catfish funtimes together, don't you remember Cantos? It hurts that you don't.... right inside my heart.... though it does make sense, I've never gone to PAX or anything with you guys.
Also, I'm racing Chu to see who will get to 50/50 slowest. Chu Chu is winning because he's not dedicating a bunch of stuff until the last possible second, the tricky man.
Ah, well. Here's to hoping I can maintain a <100 ping so I don't embarrass myself and LOL too badly.

’Twas my bad. I was trying to be low-profile and sneaky . I guess it worked.... too well.
But Cantos!! You are even sneakier... for you are Cantos.

Use to GvG in 2006-2007 and did pretty well on the ladder, made top 200 for a while. I understand your pains. The game certainly changed, and I wouldn't say for the better either.
